The Role
This role is about owning technical excellence, not people management. You’ll serve as the technical gatekeeper across every project, ensuring code quality, security, UX, and architecture meet the highest standards before anything reaches clients. Working directly with the founders, you’ll review production code, mentor developers, and help deliver custom applications and automations under tight deadlines.
About the Product
The team builds custom applications, workflow automations, and API integrations for client projects. The focus is on delivering secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions while maintaining high engineering standards across every stage of development.
Technology Stack: The engineering stack is centered around Node.js or Python on the backend, with React or similar modern frontend frameworks. Development leverages platforms such as Vercel, Neon, and Clerk, alongside automation tools including n8n and Make. Projects also involve API integrations, authentication systems, and modern AI-powered workflows.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Review production code before release, identifying security, UX, performance, and architectural issues
- Define technical direction and architectural decisions together with the founders
- Mentor developers and promote engineering best practices across a distributed team
- Deliver custom applications, automations, and API integrations within project deadlines
- Ensure high standards for code quality, maintainability, and scalability across all projects
What We Expect
Core Requirements
- 5+ years of experience shipping production code in real-world applications
- Strong backend development experience with Node.js or Python
- Experience with React or a similar frontend framework
- Fluent written and spoken English, with confidence communicating asynchronously with founders and a distributed team
- Proven ability to conduct thorough code reviews and identify security, UX, and architectural issues
- Comfortable working with automation platforms such as n8n, Make, or similar tools, or able to learn them quickly
- Direct communication style with the ability to provide clear and honest technical feedback
Experience in One or More of These Areas
- Custom application development or SaaS products
- Workflow automation and API integrations
- LLM-based systems or AI agents
- Building or mentoring small development teams (2–5 engineers)
Technical Knowledge
- Authentication and authorization, including JWT, OAuth, and managed authentication solutions
- Experience with Vercel, Neon, Clerk, or similar modern development platforms
- Experience building or leading production automation workflows
- Experience working with distributed teams across multiple time zones
- Cost-conscious approach to scaling applications
