As an Open Source Database Specialist, you play a pivotal role in supporting clients at both operational and tactical levels with open source database issues. You will be involved in CI/CD development processes, ensuring the functionality and high availability of complex database environments.
Your responsibilities extend to designing, implementing, and tuning platform performance, as well as query optimization. You act as a trusted advisor, providing improvement proposals, tooling recommendations, and contributing to the overall landscape’s efficiency.

Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and tune open source database platforms for optimal performance
- Act as a trusted advisor for clients, providing improvement proposals, tooling recommendations, and overall landscape enhancements
- Conduct health checks, quick scans, and prepare reports with conclusions and recommendations
- Participate in the development of OptimaData’s services and initiate new tools and products for open source platforms
- Serve as a focal point for general database issues within OptimaData Consultancy, expanding, documenting, and tracking knowledge and expertise
- Engage in skills uplift activities, blogging, attending events, and potential training opportunities
Requirements
Hard skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- 1–5 years of experience with databases, preferably with MySQL/MariaDB/PostgreSQL
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, and GCP is a plus
- Strong affinity or even experience with Kubernetes is a plus
- Knowledge and experience with Linux, Ansible, and Terraform are a plus
Soft skills:
- Communicatively skilled: you seek the question behind the question
- Enthusiastic and driven, with no 9 to 5 mentality
- Eager to learn: you find it important to continually broaden, deepen, and share your (technical) knowledge
- Flexible and easy-going, but respectful towards clients
